Get Jazzy. The Buttonwood Nature Center will host its 33rd annual Jazz Festival on Sunday, Aug. 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at The Wharf in Waynesboro, featuring a lineup that includes 2024 Grammy Award-winner Nicole Zuraitis, saxophonist Don Braden, drummer Dan Pugach and guitarist Paul Bollenback. The concert is free to the public, with a rain location at Waynesboro Area Middle School. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and picnics, and food will be available from the Roll Time food truck, and BYOB is permitted. The festival, which began in 1992, has a rich history of showcasing top jazz talent, supported by various sponsors including the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Join the fun at Spud Fest. On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Washington County Agricultural Education Center in Boonsboro, Md., will host Spud Fest, a vibrant celebration of the region’s potato heritage. Running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the festival will feature a variety of activities, including draft horse plowing demonstrations, children’s potato picking contests and a potato chip making demonstration. Attendees can enjoy a potato-themed lunch menu, live music and an antique tractor parade, making it a fun-filled day for families and potato enthusiasts alike. Entrance to the festival is by donation, with parking also available for a suggested donation, ensuring that everyone can partake in this unique celebration of Washington County’s agricultural traditions

Experience live music this Saturday. On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Greencastle American Legion Picnic Grounds will host the highly anticipated “Bikes & Bands IV,” a poker run and music benefit aimed at supporting the House of Hope of Franklin County Inc. The event kicks off at 10:30 a.m. with motorcycles revving up from M&S Harley Davidson, where participants are encouraged to donate $20 per bike and rider. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and live music will commence at 1 p.m., creating a festive atmosphere for attendees. With an entry fee of $25, this event promises a day filled with camaraderie, entertainment and a cause that resonates deeply within the community

Celebrate Back to School. On Sunday, Aug. 25, the Clayton Memorial Church will host a Back-to-School Bash and Church at the Park event at Lions Club Park in Mercersburg, starting at 10:30 a.m. The community gathering aims to support local students by distributing 150 fully stocked backpacks and offering free haircuts in partnership with local salons and barbershops. Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities, including food trucks, bingo, bounce houses, face painting and a dunk tank, making it a fun-filled day for families and children as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

Connect with motorcycle enthusiasts. On Sunday, Aug. 25, from noon to 2 p.m., Brussels Café in Chambersburg will host a Motorcycle Meet & Ride, inviting motorcycle enthusiasts for an afternoon of camaraderie, food and fun. Attendees can enjoy free parking along North Main Street and in the Lower King Street lot, while mingling over drinks and food, with complimentary ice cream available with any order. The ride will commence at 2 p.m., heading west on Lincoln Highway towards St. Thomas, with additional route details to be provided. Participants are encouraged to follow updates on Facebook.
