MERCERSBURG — Cumberland Valley Breast Cancer Alliance (CVBCA) is holding their 28th annual Walk/Run 5K fundraiser on Saturday, September 14. The Walk/Run will be held on Rhodes Drive in Chambersburg, Pa. Walkers and runners of all ages and abilities are welcome to participate. WellSpan Health serves as the event sponsor.

Funds support CVBCA in providing breast cancer patients with emotional and spiritual support through various programs, including free mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women; a wig donation program; and financial aid for basic needs, such as housing payments, groceries, or gas. As many as 800 participants of all abilities from routine marathoners to people who use wheelchairs travel the five kilometers of CVBCA’s Walk/Run each year to raise awareness of breast cancer and to support breast cancer survivors in local families, circles of friends, and communities.

Last year, the Walk/Run 5K brought in over $19,000. Other upcoming fundraisers for CVBCA include a ’70s-themed murder mystery dinner, a bingo night, and their annual Bowl-a-Thon.

The Walk/Run 5K begins with an opening ceremony at 9:30 a.m., including a warm-up session, a brief time of honoring Pink Warriors—breast cancer patients and survivors—a prayer, and a moment of silence to commemorate those who lost their lives to breast cancer. Walking or running begins at 10 a.m. Water bottles and a healthy snack are available to refresh participants, thanks to water sponsor Your Hometown Real Estate. CVBCA merchandise will be available for purchase after the Walk/Run. Other activities include face painting and a photo booth.

“Every year it amazes me to see this outpouring of support from our community,” says CVBCA president and CEO Samantha Logsdon. “Watching everyone come out to support our Pink Warriors warms my heart. It means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to our Pink Warriors, too. We’re excited to invite our community to this event.”

Registration for the Walk/Run will be open till the day of the event and will also be available onsite. Onsite registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Virtual participation options are also available. To register or learn more about the event or other fundraisers, visit thecvbca.org.
