Fauntleroy scores a pair of TDs, but Hubs fall to Patriots

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Ty’Qwell Fauntleroy rushed for two TDs, but North Hagerstown fell to 0-3 after Friday’s 28-12 loss to Thomas Johnson.

Fauntleroy, who had 17 carries for 49 yards and two catches for 33 yards, scored his first TD late in the second quarter to give North Hagerstown (0-3) a 6-0 lead at halftime.

The Hubs advantage didn’t last long: The Patriots (1-2) claimed a 7-6 lead early in the third quarter and expanded that lead to 14-6 at the end of the quarter. Fauntleroy scored his second TD to pull his team within two points, 14-12, but Thomas Johnson responded with two unanswered scores to put the game away.

North Hagerstown got poistive rushing efforts from Germanus Abonge (7 carries, 37 yards), Tai Gilliam (8-35), Amauri Murray (4-22), and JJ Butts (3-14). Hubs’ QB Logan Hoffman completed 11 of 21 passes for 166 yards and two interceptions. Hoffman’s top targets included Khalil Peggues (6-67) and Gilliam (3-66).

North Hagerstown was led defensively by Damean Thomas (12 tackles), Blake Custer (10 tackles, tackle for loss, fumble recovery), Toni Abonge (9 tackles, tackle for loss), Ronnie Savage III (3 tackles, fumble recovery), and Jovanni Lawson (3 tackles, forced fumble).

The Hubs return to the field on Friday, when they play host to Spring Mills (4-0), a team coming off a 62-0 victory over Musselman.

Waynesboro 47, Palmyra 14

Palmyra hung with Waynesboro for as long as it could, but the Indians showcased offensive pop as they transformed a back-and-forth contest into a blowout win.

The Cougars (1-4, 0-4 Keystone) held leads of 7-6 and 14-12, but Waynesboro scored two times before the end of the second quarter to take a 27-14 advantage. The Tribe (4-1, 3-1) sharpened their defense in the second half, and outscored Palmyra by a 20-0 margin to put the contest out of reach for the Cougars.

Palmyra successfully limited QB Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt in the running game, but Frazer-Hewitt delivered as a passer, completing 11 of 22 passes for 192 yards and four TDs. His targets included Tank Benedict (2 catches, 47 yards, touchdown), Hayden Nolan (3-26-1), Steven Howard (1-11-1), Ben Williams (1-10-1), Kean Mobley (2-52), Nathan Nolan (1-25), and Calvin Myers (1-21).

Nathan Nolan rushed for two TDs, while compiling 109 yards on 19 carries, while freshman Larry Taylor rushed twice for 21 yards and a score.

Waynesboro returns to action on Friday, when it hosts Northern York (2-3, 2-2), a team coming off a 34-14 win over Red Land.

Big Spring 20, Greencastle-Antrim 16

Greencastle-Antrim burst ahead to a 16-6 halftime lead, but could score no more points as Big Spring rallied to its first win of the season over the Blue Devils on Friday.

Greencastle (1-4, 1-3 Colonial) opened scoring in the first quarter with a 41-yard TD pass from Sean Marshall to Blake Reuter. The Blue Devils expanded that lead to 16-0 in the second quarter with a two-yard rushing TD from Carter McCauley and a 30-yard field goal from Andrew Bowers.

But Big Spring (1-4, 1-3) foreshadowed things to come before halftime with a three-yard TD plunge from Grant Hall. The Bulldogs went on to pull away from the Blue Devils in the second half with two more rushing TDs from Hall, who scored with bursts of one yard and 37 yards.

Marshall completed 10 of 20 passes for 140 yards, while Asher Whitson led Greencastle rushers with 61 yards on nine carries. McCauley had a big game in the receiving corps, hauling in six passes for 77 yards.

The Blue Devils return to the gridiron on Friday, when they host Trinity (4-1, 3-0), a team coming off a 35-25 win over Milton Hershey.

State College 29, Chambersburg 7

Chambersburg trailed State College by just three points, 10-7, at halftime, but the Little Lions used a big second half to distance themselves from the Trojans.

State College (4-1, 3-1 Commonwealth) was held to just a field goal in the first quarter, and a second-quarter score had the Little Lions leading 10-0. But Chambersburg (1-4, 0-4) got back into the game before halftime with a one-yard TD plunge from QB Ceagan Truett.

That was as close as the Trojans would get.

State College scored on its opening drive of the second half with a six-yard TD run from Lamar Wilson, and expanded that advantage when Ty Salazer hauled in a 10-yard scoring pass from Kellen Williams. The Little Lions wrapped up scoring in the fourth quarter with another score, a four-yard pass from Williams to Gaul, to push their advantage to 29-7, the eventual final score.

Truett completed 15 of 23 passes for 139 yards, with his top targets being Jason Chambers (4 catches, 50 yards), Evan Brown (4-38), Trever Luther (3-36), and Brycen Murray (3-15). The Trojans, however, were held to just four yards of rushing.

Defensively, Chambersburg was led by Stanley Lozius, who racked up 15 tackles.

The Trojans return to the field on Friday for a home game against Cedar Cliff (2-3, 1-3), a team coming off a 28-20 loss to Harrisburg.

Tuscarora 38, South Hagerstown 6

South Hagerstown allowed just 150 yards of offense, but Tuscarora still scored early and often on Friday night.

The Titans (2-1) raced ahead to a 20-0 halftime lead, before opening the third quarter with a kick return for a TD to boost that advantage to 27-0.

South Hagerstown (1-2) managed 105 yards of offense, including 60 yards on the ground, and 45 yards through the air. The Rebels committed a pair of turnovers and were 0 for 9 on third down conversions.

South Hagerstown returns to the field on Friday for its home opener against St. James (2-1), a squad coming off a 24-20 loss to Kiski.

Century 55, Smithsburg 0

Smithsburg was held scoreless for the first time this season in Friday’s loss to Century.

It was the first win of the season for the Knights (1-2), while the Leopards fell to 0-3.

Smithsburg will look to bounce back on Friday, when it plays host to Brunswick (2-1), a team coming off a 38-35 loss to Boonsboro.

Biglerville 2, Fairfield 0 (forfeit)

For the second time in three weeks, Fairfield forfeited a game due to low roster numbers.

The Knights (0-5) will try to heal up and get back on the field Friday, when they’re scheduled to face Delone Catholic (3-2), a team coming off a 32-10 loss to Bermudian Springs.
