HARRISBURG – More than $4.3 million in state grants have been awarded for projects to benefit residents in Adams and Franklin counties, state Sen. Doug Mastriano (R-33) has announced.

The grants were awarded through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Local Share Account Program, which funds projects concerning the public interest, community improvement and economic development using gaming money generated by casinos.

“These grants provide essential funding for things like firetrucks, dump trucks, infrastructure improvements and other projects that benefit residents in our communities,” Mastriano said. “These state dollars help local governments provide services without further burdening local taxpayers.”

Grant recipients include:

  • Carroll Valley Borough received $276,000 to improve Carroll Commons Park.
  • Fairfield Municipal Authority received $200,000 to replace the influent screen at its wastewater treatment plant.
  • Fannett Township received $180,000 to purchase a dump truck.
  • Franklin County received $200,000 to renovate Chambersburg Saddle Club.
  • Franklin County received $677,000 to purchase a new firetruck for Franklin Fire Co. No. 4.
  • Franklin County received $64,000 to purchase a new law enforcement vehicle for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Mercersburg Borough received $250,000 to purchase a new ambulance for Mercersburg, Montgomery, Peters and Warren Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Company.
  • Mont Alto Borough received $200,000 to replace fire hose nozzles, purchase 35 portable radios and 16 self-contained breathing apparatuses for Mont Alto Volunteer Fire Company.
  • Mount Joy Township received $221,000 to purchase a tractor.
  • Possum Valley Municipal Authority received $69,000 to purchase a work truck.
  • Reading Township received $29,000 to construct a recycling building.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development that administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.

One additional grant was awarded through the CFA’s Public School Facilities Improvement Grant Program, which provides grants to public school districts and area career and technical schools for eligible facility improvement projects.

Franklin County Career and Technology Center received $1.5 million to replace approximately 11,200 square feet of original roof on the main building.

“I specifically want to thank Rep. Rob Kauffman for working with me to secure funding for the firetruck for Franklin Fire Co. No. 4.,” Mastriano said. “I want to thank Rep. Dan Moul for the work we did together to secure funding for the Carroll Commons Park improvement project.”
