Months of practice, games and team bonding in the United Recreational Soccer League all built up to one final climax: The league’s end-of-season tournament.
A trio of Waynesboro youth teams made it all the way to the finals of their respective tournaments, including a champion.
Waynesboro Gold, a seventh- and eighth-grade co-ed team, played to a 3-5 record during the regular season, but Bruce Neterer’s squad found another gear at tournament time. The squad went 2-0 in pool play, before blasting off for the championship with three-goal victories over FC Frederick White and FC Frederick Blue.
The Waynesboro Gladiators, a third- and fourth-grade co-ed squad, and Waynesboro Eskridge, a co-ed team composed of fifth- and sixth-graders, both nailed down runner-up finishes.
The Central Penn Youth Soccer League wrapped up its season last weekend with the Chambersburg-based Union Soccer Club crowning yet another champion. The U11 Mambas, a girls team, conquered CPYSL’s Division 4 with an 8-0 record, outscoring their opponents 63-2 in the process.
