The Capitol Theatre in downtown Chambersburg is set to celebrate the holiday season with a series of events designed to bring joy and nostalgia to the community. This year’s lineup features a blend of music, film and festive gatherings, highlighted by the farewell performance of Lynn Lerew, the long-serving conductor of the Hagerstown Municipal Band.
A Touch of Christmas Concert
Kicking off the holiday festivities, the Capitol Theatre will host “A Touch of Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3 p.m. This concert marks Lynn Lerew’s final performance after leading the band for 50 years. The event will feature not only the Hagerstown Municipal Band but also talented artists such as Bob Eyer, Jr. on the Moller Theatre Pipe Organ and vocalist Lisa Turchi. Presented in partnership with the Gilmore-Hoerner Endowment, attendees can enjoy non-alcoholic beverages and concessions starting at 2 p.m. Tickets are priced at $19 and can be purchased through the theatre’s website or by contacting the Box Office.
Polar Express Movie & Pajama Party
After the concert, families can gather for a whimsical experience at the “Polar Express Movie & Pajama Party” on Saturday, Dec. 7. The festivities begin at 11 a.m. with a movie screening at noon. Guests are encouraged to wear their coziest pajamas and enjoy this beloved holiday classic from 2004 on the big screen. The event will also feature a themed hot cocoa bar and an appearance from Santa Claus. Each ticket includes one complimentary cup of hot cocoa, with additional drinks available for purchase. Tickets must be secured in advance by Dec. 5 at 4 p.m., priced at $19.
White Christmas Movie & Holiday Social
The holiday celebrations will culminate with a double feature of “White Christmas” on Thursday, Dec. 19. The first screening at 3 p.m. will be a sing-along version, followed by a classic showing at 6:30 p.m. This iconic film stars Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen and tells the story of a song-and-dance team that teams up to save a Vermont inn. Between screenings, patrons are invited to a Holiday Social at 5 p.m. featuring festive treats and drinks, along with another visit from Santa. Admission for each movie is just $5, with tickets available at the door.
In addition to these festive events, the Capitol Theatre is serving as a collection site for the United Way of Franklin County’s Winter Warmth Drive from Nov. 15 to Jan. 15.
