Get festive. Tree lighting ceremonies are a cherished tradition that bring communities together to celebrate the holiday season. In Greencastle, the annual tree lighting will take place on Friday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. in Center Square. Meanwhile, Waynesboro will also host its tree lighting event on the same evening from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the town square on Main Street. Additionally, Chambersburg will kick off its holiday festivities with a parade and tree lighting on Saturday, Nov. 23, starting at 6 p.m.. Hagerstown’s celebration will occur on the same day at 5 p.m. in Public Square, complete with free hot cocoa and a Santa appearance. No matter where you live, there are numerous opportunities to enjoy the warmth and joy of these community gatherings this holiday season.

Shop small. On Friday, Nov. 22, Downtown Chambersburg will host Pink Friday, Shop Small First, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This event is designed to offer shoppers exclusive deals from local businesses before the traditional Black Friday rush. Participating stores include Black & Blush Boutique, Golden Juniper Boutique, Ludwig Jewelers and more, each featuring unique specials. This initiative encourages the community to support local retailers and enjoy a festive shopping experience while avoiding the crowds at larger box stores. Be sure to check individual store Facebook pages for specific promotions leading up to the event.

Visit Santa’s Workshop for free. The 6th Annual Land O’ Christmas and Santa’s Workshop will kick off its opening weekend on Friday, Nov. 22, at The Counting House on the Square in Waynesboro. This free event invites the community to enjoy beautifully decorated Christmas tree displays and meet Santa Claus. The festivities begin with a tree lighting ceremony from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, followed by a parade on Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. The weekend will conclude with activities on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.. The event will continue every weekend until Dec. 15, featuring special hours for Santa’s visits and a holiday train display. Additionally, holiday raffles will benefit WALL Club’s projects, with the drawing scheduled for Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.

Snap a photo at Emerald City. The highly anticipated film adaptation of “Wicked” is set to premiere this weekend, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the magical world of Oz. The event will feature a transformed lobby at Warehouse Cinemas Leitersburg in Hagerstown, complete with enchanting decor and a photo opportunity at the Emerald City. All weekend guests can indulge in “Wicked”-themed concessions and cocktails, enhancing their cinematic experience while supplies last. Attendees are encouraged to dress in pink or green, as those who do may receive a surprise upgrade for their popcorn.

Explore unique crafts. The Kris Kingle Craft Show, taking place on Saturday, Nov. 23, at the Hagerstown Community College ARCC Gymnasium, promises to be a festive destination for holiday enthusiasts. Featuring more than 200 quality craft vendors, the event will showcase an array of holiday decor, primitive items, country decor, unique crafts, jewelry, baskets, floral arrangements, pottery, quilts, dolls, gourmet foods, candles and gifts. Attendees also can look forward to winning door prizes throughout the day. The show will operate from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and will offer free parking, a complimentary package holding area and a golf cart shuttle service for convenience. Additionally, free entertainment will enhance the holiday spirit for all visitors.
