Donations help families cope with loss of newborns

The Adalyn Rose Foundation and the Eddie and Alexa Loughery family recently donated two remembrance carts to the labor and delivery units at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Magee-Womens at UPMC Memorial and UPMC Lititz. In addition to the carts, the foundation provided its Gentle Guidance and Care Bereavement Training to 12 UPMC labor and delivery staff members.

The Loughery family, Eddie, Alexa and son, Asher, made this heartfelt donation in memory of their late son, Parker, who was born on Sept. 25, 2023, and passed away a few days later, on Oct. 1.

The Adalyn Rose Foundation supports families during times of unimaginable loss by providing hospitals with tools that help grieving parents make the most of the time they have with their babies. They also offer comprehensive and continuous care to families grieving the loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or during infancy. Remembrance carts are designed to bring comfort to parents, offering keepsakes and books to create special memories with their babies.

“At UPMC, we are committed to offering compassionate care and comprehensive support to those experiencing pregnancy loss,” said Allison Trowell, vice president, UPMC Womens Health in Central Pennsylvania. “We are grateful to the Loughery Family and the Adalyn Rose Foundation for their generous donation of remembrance carts to our labor and delivery units. These carts will provide much needed support to families during their most difficult times.”

In addition to the remembrance carts, UPMC Magee-Womens offers extensive support services to grieving families during and after a pregnancy and baby loss and provides referrals to community support services.
