Hagerstown considers Airport Business Park extension

HAGERSTOWN – The Hagerstown City Council will discuss a proposal to extend water and wastewater service leading to development of a 16-acre industrial warehouse project within the Airport Business Park.

The council will meet to consider the extension on December 10, 2024. This extension request is tied to developing a 16-acre industrial warehouse project within the Airport Business Park, located at 14735 Citicorp Drive.

The project, valued at an estimated $8 to $10 million, is considered a key economic development initiative for the region. Patton Hagerstown, LLC has requested an additional 12 months, extending the approval period to December 17, 2025, to finalize the required steps for site development. These include obtaining site plan approval, filing building permits with Washington County, and paying all necessary city utility fees.

The development is expected to create between 12 and 30 new jobs while contributing to the area’s economic growth. The site is located within the Medium-Range Growth Area, established through a city-county agreement in 2020 to guide regional planning and infrastructure development.

City staff from the Utilities and Economic Development Departments have expressed their support for the extension, emphasizing that the project aligns with the city’s strategic priorities and complies with the updated Water and Wastewater Policy. This policy, amended in December 2023, allows utility service approvals to be transferred when a property changes ownership, provided the development remains consistent with the original plan.

The City Council is expected to decide on the extension during their regular session on December 17, 2024. If approved, this extension will mark a critical step in advancing the Airport Business Park project, which is anticipated to bring new economic opportunities and infrastructure improvements to the Hagerstown region.
