Waynesboro swimmers burst Bubblers

The Waynesboro boys and girls varsity swim teams picked up where they left off a season ago this past Tuesday.

The Maidens, defending Mid-Penn Colonial Division champions, won 91-79. The Indians won by nearly an identical score, ending the evening with a 90-80 win.

In the girls’ meet, Waynesboro’s Eve Phillips, a returning PIAA qualifier, was a double winner. She took first in the 200-meter freestyle in a time of 2:21.05. She won the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:52.46.

Mady Barker also won two individual events and participated in the 200 freestyle relay.

Ruth Phillips won the 100 freestyle (1:01.43) and added a leg to the winning 200 freestyle relay event. Phillips won the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley.

On the boys’ side, Waynesboro’s Cello Dimino and JB Bonner each nabbed double wins in individual events and teamed up with Gabe Blake and Owen Shockey to win the 200 freestyle relay. Dimino placed first in the 50 freestyle (26.91) and 100 freestyle (1:00.25). Bonner was tops in the 200 freestyle (2:09.65) and 100 butterfly (1:04.10).

Riley Morgan placed first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.12.

Waynesboro will next compete against Big Spring on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Newville. The meet begins at 4:15 p.m.
