Nearly $150,000 involved in Greencastle embezzlement case

GREENCASTLE – The Greencastle Police Department has filed embezzlement charges against Krista D. Murr, 55, Greencastle, the former treasurer of Moss Spring Pool, after a detailed investigation into allegations of financial misconduct.

The investigation, which began on July 22, was initiated after concerns were raised about discrepancies in financial records and the management of funds. In partnership with the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office, investigators uncovered evidence showing the misappropriation of $148,292.56 over a period spanning from July 2017 to July 2024.

Chief Jason T. Batistig stated,Our department is committed to maintaining transparency and the highest standards of accountability. We take these allegations seriously and have acted swiftly to address this matter.”

The case has been referred to the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office, and formal charges were filed on Dec. 11. The charges against Ms. Murr include theft by unlawful taking or disposition, theft by deception, theft by failure to make required disposition and forgery.
