Agnes Ann Burgner, 84, passed away on March 31, 2025 at WellSpan York Hospital. She was born in 1941 in Martinsburg, WV – the daughter of Virginia Lemaster Prather and Earl C. Prather. She was also a class of 1959 high school graduate of St. Joseph School in Martinsburg, WV, and a member of the Chambersburg Baptist Church. Agnes was extremely proud of her time spent working for Knouse Foods Co-Op Inc. in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania before retiring after 35 and-a-half years. She then went on to work nine years for Schaad Detective Agency Inc. as security, patrolling and protecting the campus at Wilson College in Chambersburg before joining the custodial staff for the town’s school district, working at Chambersburg Area Senior High. She also spent a year as a custodian with Snack Works Inc. in Chambersburg before it closed. Through the years she also lended her work ethic as a waitress or janitor – never afraid to find ways to provide for her family. As a child she enjoyed helping around her family’s farm: feeding the chickens and building handmade wooden furniture with her Uncle John Douglas Bealle. She was a strong, independent, take-charge, kind-of-woman who took great pride in her work and her family. She was grounded to the Earth and rooted in her Cherokee heritage. She never backed down from a challenge and instilled that in all of her descendants. She was obsessed with supporting her children and grandchildren’s many accomplishments. From sports, to chorus, to band and school studies, she enjoyed all levels of life and being a part of those moments for her family. She enjoyed iced tea in sunshine, gardening and raising her house plants as well as sewing, knitting and crocheting. She loved reading and watching sports or old westerns on TV and dancing to country or bluegrass music. She enjoyed trips to Nashville to see the Grand Ole Opry and to Memphis to visit Graceland. She adored Elvis Presely and John Wayne. She loved science fiction books, movies and TV. She believed in family first and took many measures to make sure no one in her flock would go without, preferring to go without before any one in her care.
