Mrs. Alma W. (Warwick) Oyer, 100, of Waynesboro, PA passed away Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025, in her home.
Born January 30, 1925 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Walter P. and Mildred (Needy) Warwick. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
She and her husband, the late Nickson W. “Nick” Oyer, were married on September 17, 1949 in Hagerstown, MD. Mr. Oyer died on November 9, 2012.
Mrs. Oyer and her husband took over his father’s business in 1956 – W.R. Oyer Construction. Together, they also owned and operated several additional side businesses that dealt in building and leasing. She retired in 2017.
She was a former member of the Fountainhead Country Club and the Waynesboro Country Club.
Mrs. Oyer was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. She was a generous contributor to the local community, helping to support numerous organizations throughout the local area.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia O. Eckels and her husband, Robert of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren, Patrick T. Zurgable (Barb) of Waynesboro, Nichole E. Zurgable (Gary Decker) of Waynesboro, and Leigh A. Zurgable (Darren Burkhard) of Charleston, SC; three great-grandchildren, Nickson T. Zurgable, Brittany P. Zurgable, and Grant M. Calimer (Kelsey); one great-great-grandson, Riley O. Calimer; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M., Monday, February 10, 2025, in Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro with Pastor Ray Kipe officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., Monday, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
A celebration of life service is currently being planned for spring 2025. Times and location will be announced at a later date.
