Alvin William Everetts, 71, from Greencastle PA entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, January 19, 2025. He was born February 8, 1953, in Mercersburg, PA to Harry Sr and Betty Everetts. He was a graduate of James Buchanan High School, Class of 1972.
After high school, Alvin started work at Grove Manufacturing, later Manitowoc Cranes in Shady Grove, PA. He dedicated 43 years 3 months of service before retiring 2015. After retiring from Manitowoc, he had the opportunity to work for R&J Home Improvements. Due to his declining health, he officially hung up his hammer and paint brush in 2023. He really enjoyed his time with R&J Home Improvements because it kept him busy after the death of his wife, but he also was able to work with his brother-in-law Ricky Bonebrake whom he often said was more like a brother. In fact, he often said that all of his brothers-in-law (Terry, Allen, Ricky and Dale Bonebrake) were all more like brothers than in-laws.
He married his beloved wife, Cynthia May Bonebrake on April 27, 1974. They were married for 45 years before her passing in October 2019. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Alvin William Everetts, Jr., his parents, father and mother-in-law Jack and Delores Bonebrake, two bothers Harry Jr and Allen Everetts and a sister, Shirley Crider. There were also several nephews and brothers-in-law that passed prior as well.
Alvin is survived by two daughters, Miranda Thomas and her husband Darrell Thomas of Maugansville MD and Jennifer Everetts and husband Gregory Dorsey of Hagerstown MD. He was Pappy to Gracie, Aiden and Reagan Thomas and Austin and Silas Dorsey. He had an additional granddaughter, Ariel Kendall who has two children Melody and Wyatt. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by a brother, Gene and a sister, Nancy Robinson as well as numerous brother and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Alvie looked forward to both hunting and fishing seasons, never missing a season until last year. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, planting a garden, canning and butchering. He was a natural athlete and participated in softball, bowling, golf and horseshoes. In fact, there was not much he wasn’t good at except maybe swimming. He also enjoyed coaching his daughters’ softball team for several years during the summer.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of DaVita Kidney Care of Hagerstown Maryland for the care they provided during his treatments and neighbor/friend, John Baer who was always there to lend a helping hand for whatever the need.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle. Burial will be private, at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.bowersoxfuneralhomes.com.
