Mr. Anthony “Lee” Shaver, 82, of Greencastle, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2025, following an extended illness, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on February 12, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Lee was the son of the late Jon W. and Loretta A. (Johnson) Shaver.

Growing up as the child of a military family meant Lee attended many schools and lived in several places, an experience that helped shape his easygoing nature, quick wit, and ability to make friends wherever he landed. He graduated from Little Rock High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, with the Class of 1964.

Lee proudly served in the United States Army for six years. While stationed overseas, he continued his education and earned an associate’s degree from the University of Maryland.

On November 28, 1970, Lee married the love of his life, Irene N. (Hawkesworth) Shaver, in Pateley Bridge, North Yorkshire, England. Their marriage was filled with devotion, shared adventures, and plenty of good stories.

Lee spent 35 years working for the Federal Government, from 1968 until his retirement in 2003. In retirement, he devoted himself fully to the things he loved most. An avid amateur radio operator for over 50 years, Lee could happily spend hours talking with friends across the airwaves, swapping stories and reminiscing.

He was also a lifelong dog lover and never felt quite right without a canine companion by his side. His wife often joked that she wasn’t entirely sure who held first place in Lee’s heart, her or his beloved dog Samson. Even years after Samson’s passing, Lee would still tear up at the mention of his name, proving just how deeply he loved his four-legged friends.

Above all else, Lee cherished his family. Time spent together, whether talking, laughing, or simply being in one another’s company meant everything to him.

In addition to his wife, Irene, Lee is survived by his sons, Anthony Lee Shaver, Jr., and his wife, Stacy and Matthew Jon Shaver; his grandchildren, Ryan Shaver, Kennedy (Shaver) Ramirez and her husband, Hilario, III, Reya Shaver, and Mia Shaver; his siblings, Mary (Shaver) Davis, Jon Ward Shaver, Jr., and his wife, Linda,  Patrick Shaver, and his wife, Kathy and Thomas Shaver.

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his siblings Jan Shaver, Daniel Shaver, and Michelline (Shaver) Evans. Several years ago, Lee discovered a half-brother through DNA, Keith “Skip” Hand, Jr., who passed away on February 6, 2024, in Sister Lakes, Michigan and is survived by his wife, Valerie. The two formed an immediate and meaningful bond, one that brought great joy and lasting impact to both of their lives.

A celebration of Lee’s life will be private and held at the convenience of his family.
