Mr. Carroll Pensinger, 98, a resident of Sunrise of Columbia, Columbia, MD, and formerly of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Sunday morning, July 6, 2025, in the assisted living center.
Born March 14, 1927, in Antrim Township, PA, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Lottie (Wishard) Pensinger.
He graduated from Greencastle High School with the class of 1945 and later from Hagerstown Business College in 1949.
Mr. Pensinger served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Germany from 1945 to 1946.
He and his late wife, Doris (Greenawalt) Pensinger, were married on February 15, 1947. Mrs. Pensinger passed away on April 13, 2020.
Mr. Pensinger was employed by Wayne Gas and Oil Co. from 1952 until 1962 and then worked for Thompson Oil Co. from 1962 until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church while he lived in Waynesboro. He served on the church council for several terms and was the congregation treasurer for 12 years. He was a 50-year member and Past Master (1962) of the Acacia Lodge #586 F.&A.M., Waynesboro. He was a former member of Harrisburg Consistory, a member of Zembo Shrine, Harrisburg, Zembo Past Masters Club, Zembo R/V Unit, Zembo Sports Car Unit, Franklin County Shrine Club, and a life member of both the Joe Stickell American Legion Post #15, Waynesboro, and Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg. He was a volunteer driver for the Waynesboro Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital. Carroll helped to deliver Meals on Wheels, and he was a Red Cross blood donor (30+ gallons).
After retirement, Carroll enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV throughout the U.S. and Canada, and they spent their winter months in the Florida Keys.
He is survived by his daughters, Marcia Summers and her husband, Jeffrey, of Columbia, MD, and Julee Pensinger of Waynesboro; a granddaughter, Andrea J. Summers, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and his great-granddogs, Pizza and Ruby.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his 7 brothers and sisters: 3 sisters, Mary (Lester Picking), Ruth (Arthur Statler), and Edna (Paul Toms), and 4 brothers: John, Emmert, Art, and Bill (William).
Instead of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, PA 17268 or the Zembo Shrine, 2801 N. 3rd St., Harrisburg, PA 17110.
There will be a private graveside service for immediate family on Friday, July 11, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA.
