Charles Preston Quivers, aged 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on June 29, 1953, at Chambersburg Hospital. He is the son of the late Betty Mae Quivers and the late Richard Ellsworth Quivers. He graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in June 1972. He was a deacon at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church for 40+ years where he taught Sunday School, bus driver for all events, trustee, carried communion to local hospitals, nursing homes and the sick and shut-in, secretary of the Deacons Alliance Ministry and was currently serving as a deacon at Unity in Christ Church of Chambersburg. He served as a council member, was part of the men’s ministry and sang in the men’s choir but was willing to serve wherever needed. He worked at T.B. Woods for several years and then as a truck driver for a total of 34 years combined at Horn’s Express of Chambersburg, PA and Yellow Freight of Hagerstown, MD, earning his Driver of the Year and Million Miler awards. Charles was part of the Lebanon Cemetery Association for many years. After retirement from being a truck driver, he worked for the Chambersburg Area School District for five years and really retired from Seller’s Funeral Home after seventeen years. He lived for God first, his family and his grandchildren. He loved to sing and quote the gospel of God, play the tambourine, wake up every morning reading his Bible, The Daily Bread and The Upper Room while enjoying his Maxwell House coffee. He loved his mints and snacks. He loved MeTV and the Game Show Network. He loved the beach, music, cracking jokes, plays, concerts, eating out and vacations with his family and friends. He volunteered where needed for the whole community. His favorite sayings were "I’m just a phone call away (day or night), 10-4, just chillaxing, be safe and don’t overdo it!" Charles is survived by his wife of fifty years, Darlene (Stains) Quivers, children Charles P.M. (Chuck) Quivers (Christy) of Chambersburg, PA, Chad E. Quivers (Amanda) of Harrisburg, PA, and Chasity S. Quivers of Germantown, MD. He is also survived by his siblings Richard Rideout, Reginald Quivers (Debbie), Vickie Torres (Junior) Mark Quivers, Rodney Quivers (Sonja) and Robin Quivers (Bill) and his aunt Doris Jean Ridout Carson. His grandchildren Preston, Arlana, Natalie, Carter, Adeline, Henry, his two grand doggies Charity and Charlee and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, godchildren and many friends. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his siblings Donald Rideout and Saundra Rideout. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Unity in Christ Church with Rev. Lois Waters officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at Lebanon Cemetery following the service.
