Command Sergeant Major Ret. Warren Snyder “Ike” Eichelberger, Sr., 93, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Sunday, April 27, 2025.

Born on June 16, 1931, in Hagerstown, MD., He was the son of the late Albert Eyler and Anna Elizabeth (Snyder) Eichelberger.

He joined the Army when he was 17 years old and made a career of it. He served his country for 26 ½ yrs. In the United States Army as an Infantry paratrooper overseas in Korea and during the Vietnam War. His service included four years of Combat. He received (3) Silver Stars, (4) Bronze Stars, (2) Purple Hearts with the Legion of Merit and over Forty other awards and commendations. A Bugler of the 8th Cavalry Regiment Leader, Drum & Bugle Corp, in the U.S. Army over in Tokyo, Japan.

Upon his retirement in 1974, he was a Command Sergeant Major E-9 of the 2nd Infantry Division, 82nd Airborne Division Association, 101st Airborne Division Association, and Special Forces (Green Beret) Association. He continued his military employment at Fort Ritchie and later was also employed as a deputy sheriff for Washington County, MD, from 1974 to 1986.

“Ike” or Sergeant Major was his nickname, enjoyed going snowmobiling in Canada, riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle to different places throughout the countryside. He even had made 20 trips out to Sturgis SD for bike week. He enjoyed watching his favorite TV programs with his cat “Buddie” Sleeping on his lap and going out to eat with family and friends at his favorite restaurants.

He is survived by his fiancée Carolyn Deshong of Mercersburg, PA; 3 daughters: June K. Martin (husband, Barry R.) of FL, Judy K. Chambers (husband, Arthur F.) of Chambersburg, PA, Janet K. Paylor of Greencastle, PA and a son: Warren S. Eichelberger, Jr. of Chambersburg, PA; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters; his first wife, Kyoko Eichelberger of FL, his second wife, JoAnn M. Eichelberger of Greencastle, PA and his third wife, Mary Ann Eichelberger of Greencastle, PA and recently passed, his beloved cat, “Buddie James”, a longtime companion of 14 years.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle, PA, with his close friend, CSM (Ret.) Jesse Laye officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, where he will receive full military honors and be laid to rest with his fellow fallen soldiers that served and gave their lives so we could be a free country.
