Dennis Travis Linkous, age 81, of Waynesboro PA passed from this earth on December 10, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Dennis was born Jan 23, 1944 in Wytheville, VA to Virgil T. Linkous and June Rickey Linkous. Dennis graduated from John Marshal High School in Richmond, Virginia and earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from East Tennessee State University. He spent most of his professional career working for the State of Viginia, including DMV and the Comptroller’s Office of Virginia as Benefits Manager, Department of Accounts. Dennis had his own marine fabrication business with his wife Marsha in Kill Devil Hills, NC. He and his wife were also stained-glass artists; they made and donated stained-glass windows to the Collington United Methodist Church in Kill Devil Hills, NC. A veteran who served in the U.S. Army Reserve, he was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary of Elizabeth City, NC.
Dennis married Marsha Clements Linkous May 25, 1985. His children are Tracy (Chad) Mason of Montpelier VA; Bennie (Wendy) Smith of Henrico VA; and Rachel von Garrel of Smithsburg, MD. His grandchildren are Karsyn and Brady Mason; Anna Marie Williams and Aaron Smith; Summer Jackson and Zachary von Garrel; and great granddaughter Harley Faith Jackson. Dennis is survived by his brother Eddie (Kay) Linkous of Columbia, SC. He is preceded in death by his brother Wayne (Nancy) Linkous of Quinton, VA.
Dennis was passionate about boating and spent a lot of time on the waters of Urbanna and Deltaville, VA; the Chesapeake Bay; the canals and sounds of Collington Harbor in the Outer Banks of NC; the Intracoastal Waterway; and Lake Okeechobee, FL. He built a home for his family in Varina, VA with the help of his father-in-law Thomas Clements. Dennis loved renovating boats and doing projects for family and friends. He and Marsha enjoyed camping in their motor homes, especially in Maggie Valley, NC. Dennis loved wintering in Ancient Oaks resort in Lake Okeechobee, FL where he spent countless hours boating, fishing, and enjoying the warm sun. Dennis leaves behind many dear friends in Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and many other states.
