Donald C. Stottlemyer, 81, a resident of Homewood Living Williamsport (MD) and formerly of Jefferson, MD, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Doey’s House, Hagerstown, MD.

Born January 29, 1944 in Hagerstown, Maryland. He was the son of the late Wilbur E. and Helen E. (Barkdoll) Stottlemyer.

Don was a 1962 graduate of Smithsburg High School, Smithsburg, Maryland and a 1966 graduate of John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science, Nashville, Tennessee receiving his Funeral Directors and Embalmers Degree. He was a licensed Funeral Director in Maryland, District of Columbia and a courtesy license in the state of Virginia.

He worked for the Bast Funeral Home in Boonsboro, MD, Nalley Funeral Home in Mt. Rainier, MD, Stein Hebrew Memorial Funeral Home in Washington, D.C. which he managed for 20 years and the Danzansky-Goldberg Memorial Chapels and Sagel Funeral Direction in Rockville, MD, as a Senior Arranger.

He was a member of Salem Lodge #196 A. F & A.M., Smithsburg, Maryland, Charter member of the John C. Coates Memorial Lodge in Baltimore, Maryland, Past Secretary and Chaplain of York Lodge # 225 A.F. & A.M. of Cheverly, Maryland, became an Honorary Past Master of York Lodge until the merge with Collington Lodge #230 A.M. & F. M. in Bowie, Maryland which he still was an Honorary Past Master.

Don was a member of the Potomac Valley Scottish Rite Club, Gaithersburg, Maryland, member of the Scottish Rite Frederick and Baltimore Chapters, member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest # 95, Hagerstown, Maryland. The highlight of his Masonic life was in 1994 when he was asked to become Grand Chaplain for the Grand Lodge of Maryland A. F & A.M. which he served in that position under Grand Master William M. Clark and Stephen J. Ponzillo. He was again asked in 2004 to be Grand Chaplain for the Grand Lodge of Maryland under Grand Master Ronald G. Belanger.

He also was a member of the Smithsburg Historical Society.

Don is survived by one daughter, Stephanie Lynn Stottlemyer of Martinsburg, WV; one son, Jeffrey Scott Stottlemyer of York, PA; four grandsons, Michael, Caleb, Matthew, and Donald; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Adams of Waynesboro, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (Gill) Stottlemyer on June 23, 2004; two sisters, Betty Baker and Dorothy Kendall; and one brother, Robert Stottlemyer.

Services will be held at 12:00 P.M., Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 16 N. Main St., Smithsburg, MD with Pastor Virgil Cain officiating. Burial will follow in Smithsburg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., Friday evening, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA where a Masonic funeral will be held by the members of Salem Lodge at 7:30 P.M.
