Mrs. Donna A. (Benchoff) Hovis, 82, of Waynesboro, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 in her daughter’s home.
Born February 18, 1942 in Zullinger, PA, she was the daughter of the late Howard J. and Gertrude M. (Gable) Benchoff.
Mrs. Hovis was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1960.
Prior to her retirement, she owned and operated Klassy Kritter, a local grooming business, for 34 years.
She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro and an active volunteer at Antietam Humane Society. She spent countless hours grooming the animals at the shelter and served in many capacities with the Board of Directors.
An animal lover, Mrs. Hovis especially treasured cats. She had several as family pets and also took care of a feral colony near her home, keeping them fed and warm.
She is survived by daughter, Melissa “Missy” (Lowry) Johnson and her husband, Denny of Waynesboro; son, C. Patrick Lowry of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Jarred Johnson (Jillian) of Porter, TX, Taylor Trostle (Brandon Trude) of Oakton, VA and Jordan Trostle of Reston, VA; great-granddaughter, Juliette Olivia Johnson; son-n-law, Mark D. Trostle of Annaoplis, MD; brother, Raymond “Jed” Benchoff of Waynesboro; sisters-in-law, Carmen Benchoff of Riverside, CA, Jean Benchoff of Mont Alto, PA, Emily Lowry of Waynesboro and Cindi Hovis Reeder of Greencastle, PA; former spouse, John Hovis of Chambersburg; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Michelle L. “Shelly” (Lowry) Trostle; two sisters, Alma Howe and infant Lois Catherine Benchoff; brothers, Hobart, Paul, Carl, Richard “Dick” and Joseph; and former spouse, Charles “Chip” Lowry.
A Celebration of Donna’s Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, January 25, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with the Rev. Danielle Neff officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
