Mrs. Doris H. (Hawkins) Guenther, 76, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Monday, December 2, 2024 at WellSpan Chambersburg Hospital surrounded by her family.

Born April 16, 1948 in Roanoke Rapids, NC, she was the daughter of the late Paul, Jr. and Janie (Grizzard) Hawkins.

Mrs. Guenther was a graduate of Averett College with the Class of 1971.

Mrs. Guenther taught mathematics in the Pittsylvania County, VA Public School system for many years, later at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, VA and then finishing her 41 year teaching career at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, VA.

She was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Woodstock, VA where she served in many capacities including on the vestry and altar guild and was a member of the Women’s group and the Daughters of the King.

Mrs. Guenther enjoyed knitting, gardening, and caring for her dear friends, neighbors and her beloved pets.

She is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, Mr. Jeffrey R. Guenther who she married December 4, 1973; daughter, Courtney L. Burgan and her husband, William of Clear Spring, MD, son, Harold Dalton Guenther and his wife, Selena of Dunoon, Scotland, son, Carlos Solis and his wife, Amy of Kissimmee, FL; four grand-children; six great-grandchildren; her beloved dogs, Anna & Bear; and a host of extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie Hawkins.

A Celebration of Doris’s Life is being planned in Virginia and will be announced at a later date.
