Dwayne A. “Detroit” Mallast, 45, of Chambersburg, PA, and formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Wellspan York Hospital in York, PA.
He was born on May 13, 1980, in Goldsboro, NC to the late Charles W. Mallast, Sr. and Geraldine Sams Stewart.
Dwayne was a 1999 graduate of Green Run High School in Virginia Beach. He was employed as a Motor Vehicle Operator by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, PA but also worked at various other companies throughout his life. He attended Brownsville Church of God in Fayetteville, PA. Dwayne enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid sports fan. He rooted the hardest and loudest for his beloved Detroit Lions. He was also extremely proud of his son Blake’s many accomplishments in soccer and track and field.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Brooke J. (Fortune) Mallast of Chambersburg, PA, 2006; sons Blake Mallast and Braejon Barton; brothers Patrick LaScott (Kim) of Bad Axe, MI; Greg LaScott (Carol) of Croswell, MI; Joseph Mallast of Charleston, SC; father figure Troy Wile, Sr. of Chambersburg, PA; and special relationships with many close friends, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by two siblings, Kimberly Ann LaScott and Donald William LaScott.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202, with Pastor Victor Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
