Eleanora Y. “Sis” (Boward) Duffey, 90, passed away Friday morning July 11, 2025 in Providence Place after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Sis was born September 24, 1934 in Washington County, MD. She lived in the Leitersburg/Waynesboro area until moving to Providence Place in July 2024. Sis graduated from Hagerstown High School in 1952.
Sis and her husband of over 72 years, Donald “Duff” Duffey were married on November 15, 1952 in Leitersburg, MD.
Sis began working at Pangborn right out of high school as a secretary. She then worked at Fairchild Industries for a short time.
After her 3 children were all in school, she returned to work at Hagerstown Motor Express as a clerk/typist for the next 18 years. She continued her working career at General Freights in Hagerstown before moving to an office manager position at TFX Marine where she retired in 2005 at the age of 70.
She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and Loyal Order of Moose #1191 and Chapter 1136.
“Sis” as most everyone called her, enjoyed doing crafts, ceramics, playing games and helping her children and grandchildren with school projects. She also enjoyed the occasional trip to Charlestown! Most of all, she loved to cook and have everyone to her house on Sunday for a meal. Her family was the most important thing to her and she loved us with all her heart. She never complained even while enduring many broken bones and surgeries because of her Parkinson’s disease. Her patience and inner strength was incomparable. Sis is the last of her immediate family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by 3 children, Jeffrey Duffey and his wife Sharon of Falling Waters, WV; Gregory Duffey and his wife, Debi of Waynesboro and Cynthia Kauffman and her husband, Rob of Waynesboro. She also had 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, July 15, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Robert Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
