Esther Jerine Wagner, 101, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025. She was born March 15, 1924, in Greenvillage, PA, the daughter of the late Paul K. Leonard and Mary E. Leonard Oliver. She married Robert A. Wagner on May 30, 1942. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Wagner on August 16, 1997; son, Robert L. Wagner; foster son, Kenneth Hockenberry; sister, Marie K. Freshman; brother, William K. Leonard. Survived by daughter-in-law, Candice Wagner; foster daughter-in-law, Doris Jean Hockenberry; one grandson, Craig Wagner (Jenelle); three great granddaughter, Riley, Jordy, Charlotte; three foster grandchildren, Lori Misner (Randy), Lance Hockenberry (Melissa), Lisa Westberry (Mike); seven foster great grandchildren, Jessica, Justina, Janelle, Katelyn, Destiny, Dorie, Chevy; six great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Esther graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1941. Employed by Weaver Blue Ridge Woolen Mill and retired from Servomation at James River Plant. She was a member of Zion Reformed United and served as Deacon and the first woman Elder on Consistory. She taught Sunday School for over 65 years. Esther was very active: Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 46, Past President of AARP 2287, Past President Women’s Democrat Club of Franklin County, Past President of Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary, Brownie Leader in Girl Scouts. She volunteered at the Chambersburg Hospital, Capital Theater, Community Theater, Chambersburg heritage Center, Old Jail-Kittochintinny, Greenvillage-Culbertson Reunion Chair, member of NARFE, Church Women United, American Legion Lady for many students at SSVC, judge for elections for over six years, organized bus trips for AARP, Board of Chambersburg Community Centers. She received many awards including: Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary of Year, by Franklin County Democrats for 60 years of service, Township Lions Club Citizen of he Year, Kiwanais Club Mike Waters’ Citizen of the year, PA American Legion Auxiliary of Year, PA Election Hero, Oriole Hometown hero. Esther played second base on the Greenvillage Hornet’s Softball Team. She and Bob were members of the ACERS Skating Club at the former Ace of Hearts Skating Rink. She loved to walk, bowl and watch the Orioles. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion Reformed UCC, 259 S. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg, PA 17201, with Rev. Thomas Dunkle officiating. Interment at Parklawns Memorial Gardens will follow the service. There will be a time of visitation on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. held at Sellers Funeral Home.
