Mr. George F. Schafer, Jr., 71, of State Line, PA, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born March 31, 1953, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late George F. Schafer Sr. and Lorraine (Novak) Schafer.
Mr. Schafer graduated from Kenwood High School in Baltimore, with the Class of 1971.
He and his wife of over 54 years, Linda C. (Topa) Schafer, were married on October 18, 1970, in Baltimore.
George served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1971 to 1975.
He was a computer analyst at Fiserv, formally known as Citicorp and then First Data. He retired in 2020 after 35 years of service.
Mr. Schafer was a member of St. Mark and St. Luke Parish in Greencastle, PA, and the Rosedale American Legion Post #180, Rosedale, MD. He was a simple man who enjoyed spending time with his family, working outside in his yard, swimming in his pool, being a handyman around the house, putting together puzzles, and traveling with those he loved most.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, George Scott Schafer of Greencastle; a grandson, George Thomas Schafer; a sister, Marsha O. Schraml of Belair, MD; and a brother, Thomas V. Schafer of Essex, MD.
Military honors will be provided by Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post#1599, at 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in the parking lot of Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. Greencastle.
Following the military honors, a viewing will be held in the funeral home until 7:00 P.M., when a service will begin with Deacon Dan Signore officiating.
