Mr. George H. Neal, Jr., 79, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025 in his home.
Born December 23, 1945 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late George H. Neal, Sr. and Alice (Talbott) Neal Seymour Galbraith, Waynesboro
Mr. Neal was a graduate of Scotland School for Veteran’s Children, Scotland, PA with the Class of 1963. He later attended Messiah College for 1 year and the American Institute of Banking, Harrisburg, PA for 6 months.
He served in the United States Army Reserves during Vietnam from March 1966 until April 1971 with the 313th Infantry of the 157th Brigade, Harrisburg as a mail clerk for 500 men. He completed his basic training at Ft. Knox, Louisville KY
Mr. Neal was employed as a drive in teller at Harrisburg National Bank, payroll clerk for 175 men at L.S. Lee & Son in Paxtang, PA, bookkeeper for J.H. Rearick & Son in Dillsburg, PA, toll collector at Harrisburg International Airport and janitor at Mack Truck in Middletown, PA. He retired on disability in 1978.
Protestant by Faith, he was affiliated with Calvary Assembly of God Church, Waynesboro. Was a member of Geyer’s United Methodist Church, Middletown, PA and also attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Dillsburg where he served as Sunday School Superintendent of several years
In young years, he played little league in Waynesboro for the “Lutherans”. He later played in 13-15 yr league for Dillsburg VFW where he pitched no hitter against Silver Spring Twp, played for New Cumberland American Legion where pitcher 1-hitter against Mechanicsburg. He also received letter to try out for Philadelphia Phillies in 1970’s George played on winning teams and losing teams with winners and losers. He also attended summer camp at AP Hill in Richmond VA and Watertown, NY where he served as a mail boy.
A devoted fan of Penn State football, George also was an avid bowler, having won a bowling championship in 1971 with a 633 series and 233 game.
George experienced many health obstacles in life. His strong faith in God helped him remain kind and generous through it all.
Mr. Neal is survived by daughter, Shelley Renee Abrashoff (Steve) of Dillsburg, PA; son Andrew H. Neal of Middletown, PA; two grandchildren, Alison Frances Pereira (Mason) & Steve George Abrashoff; his aunt who was more like a sister, Mary Anne Edwards and her husband, Darrell; Scotland School faithful friend, Sue Pinsky; and dear friend, Crystal Shauf
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-fathers, Martin Seymore and Charles E. “Chuck” Galbraith.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff of Blue Mountain Agency and Angels on Call for the wonderful care they provided George throughout the years.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 21, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Pastor Dwan Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
