Mr. Gerald W. “Butch” Baker, 84, of Mont Alto, passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2026 in Transitions Healthcare of Gettysburg.

Born May 19, 1941 in Mont Alto, he was the son of the late A. Jean (Bittinger) Baker and Gerald W. Baker, Sr.

He dedicated 42 years of service to maintenance at Penn State Mont Alto and was a proud life member of the Mont Alto Fire Department, serving his community as a fire truck and ambulance driver. In his free time, Butch enjoyed hunting, golfing, playing softball and sharing many card games with his friends at the fire hall.

Butch is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Delores J. (Wagaman) Baker who he married June 29, 1963; three daughters, Barbara A. Lowson and her husband, John of Waynesboro, Lorie A. Cross and her husband, Denny of Hagerstown and Holly L. Stewart and her husband, Dwayne of Laurel, MD; six grandchildren, Jonathan Lowson (Alyssa), Michael Lowson, Allison Kirby (James), Candice Borro (Domenic), Darius Stewart and Halie Stewart; six great-grandchildren, Raven Lowson, Abigail Kirby, Maddox Kirby, Giovanni Borro, Genevieve Borro and Giuliani Borro; two step-grandchildren, Destinie Samuel and Kahlil Stewart; five step-great-grandchildren; sister, Beverly Spicer of Mont Alto; and a number of nieces and nephews; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Butch’s life will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, January 17, 2026 in Mont Alto United Methodist Church, 10 S. Main St., Mont Alto with Pastor Loretta McClure officiating.  Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Strang’s Cemetery, South Mountain.
