Jan G. Sulcove, a respected attorney and longtime Chambersburg resident, passed away on February 4, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in 1946 to Bertha and Ralph Sulcove, Jan was a gifted student and musician. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1968 and earned his law degree from The Dickinson School of Law in 1971. After law school, he moved to Chambersburg, where he built a distinguished legal career at Black & Davison, P.C., serving the community with dedication and integrity. Over the course of his career, he was admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and handled cases before the state and federal courts at all levels, including the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. He was a dedicated member of the Franklin County Bar Association for 54 years. A talented trumpet player, Jan had a lifelong passion for music and was a devoted supporter of the arts. He was a founding board member of the Chambersburg Area Council for the Arts and performed with numerous ensembles, including the Hagerstown Municipal Band, the Shippensburg Town Band, the St. Thomas Band, the Delta Brass Ensemble, and the original Cumberland Valley School of Music Community Band. Jan was known for his quick wit, thoughtful counsel, and unwavering loyalty. His friends and family will remember him as a gracious and generous host, a wonderful mentor, and above all, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane; his son and daughter-in-law, Elliott and Sally; his son and daughter-in-law, Jerrold and Lauren; and his cherished grandchildren, Brian and Elizabeth. A service will be held for friends and family in the spring. In lieu of flowers and in gratitude for the compassionate care he received, the family invites donations to Mercy House of Chambersburg and SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice in Jan’s memory.
