Ms. Joy A. (Smedley) Shatzer, 63, of Waynesboro, PA passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in her home.
Born June 26, 1961 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of Janet L. (Potter) Smedley of Waynesboro and the late Robert W. Smedley. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
She was a graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the Class of 1979.
Joy worked at The Record Herald, Waynesboro for many years in the classifieds and editorial departments. She was currently working at the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren providing custodial services.
She was a member of The Waynesboro Church of the Brethren and enjoyed gardening, going to Chincoteague, VA and spending time with her family. She always lent a helping hand and went out of her way to see happiness in others.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by two children, Ashley Gordon (Erik) of Chambersburg, PA and Tyler Shatzer (Ashlee) of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Camryn, Camdyn, Wyatt and Willow; two sisters, Robin Calimer and Susan Smedley, both of Waynesboro; one brother, Robert Smedley of Columbus, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 24, 2025 in The Waynesboro Church of the Brethren, 117 S. Church St., Waynesboro with Pastor Andrew Paterno officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Monday morning, in the church.
