Mrs. Judith Anne Johnson Ost, 90, of Chambersburg, PA went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Chambers Pointe Heath Care Center, Chambersburg.
Born December 22, 1934 in Cumberland, MD, she was the wife of the late Major Roland E. Ost, Jr. and the daughter of the late Rev. Martin C. And Ruth J. Johnson
Mrs. Ost graduated from Allegany High School in Cumberland, MD and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and Resource Music Education from Then Madison College, now, James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, in June 1956.
Roland and Judy were married December 28, 1957 in The Methodist Church in Cresaptown, MD. They were married for over 55 years, until Roland’s death, March 12, 2013.
While her husband Roland, was a career Officer in The United Stated Air Force, Judy was busy at home with her family. She was very active in the Base Chapel, where she and Roland both taught Sunday School at Castle AFB, near Atwater, CA. Judy was active in The Protestant Women of the Chapel and served as President at Grissom AFB in Peru, Ind.
She also played the organ and piano in different chapels and local churches. She was active in The Child Evangelism Ministry, hosting and teaching Good New Club in her home for years.
After Roland’s retirement from the Air Force Judy taught for several years at Broadfording Christian Academy in Hagerstown, Md. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s she worked as part time Deputy of The Clerk of Courts in Franklin County, PA. Roland and Judy founded The Christian Coalition in Franklin County. She also served as Republican Committeewoman for Antrim 5 in Greencastle, PA. For over 20 years. In 1994, she was elected from Franklin County as their State Republican Committeewoman, and served for 6 years in the position.
Judy was a member of The First Wesleyan Church in Cresaptown, MD and attended Chambersburg First Church of God on Grande Point Road after moving to The Penn Hall Campus of Menno Haven Retirement Community in Chambersburg in Oct. 2015.
Judy enjoyed choral and instrumental music, Bible Study, conservative politics, the art of calligraphy, baking and cooking and reading.
Judy is survived by her two grown and married children: Frederick Roland Ost and his wife, Lois of Elizabethton, TN, and David Matthew Martin Ost and his wife, Michelle of Chambersburg, PA; five grandchildren, Daniel Roland Bieber, Rachel Ost Farhat, Katharine Ost, Mercedes Ost Johnson and Madelynn Ost; four great-grandchildren, Sienna Bieber, Atticus Farhat, Adeline Farhat and Emberlynn Johnson; her sister-in-law, Elaine Johnson; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ruth Frieda; one brother, Martin Johnson.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 16, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Scott Despres officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Friday afternoon, in the funeral home.
