Mr. Karl E. “Ernie” Aichele, 77, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Born on August 1, 1947, in Zunsweir, West Germany, he was the son of the late Mr. Erwin G. and Freida V. (Linehardt) Aichele.
Ernie honorably served his country with distinction, dedicating 20 years to the United States Army, including multiple tours in Vietnam. Throughout his military career, he received numerous decorations and awards in recognition of his bravery and service. Following his retirement from the Army, he continued his commitment to public service, working for the U.S. government for an additional 26 years.
On June 29, 1970, he married the love of his life, Julia L. (Williams) Aichele. Together, they shared over 54 years of marriage, building a life filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories.
A man of many passions, Ernie was an avid gardener and found great joy in raising tropical fish.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Julia; his daughter, Audrey Lee Ehrman of York, PA; and his adored grandchildren, Paige Aichele, Parker Ehrman, and Spencer Ehrman. He is also survived by his siblings: Sieglinde Ogan of Oceanside, CA; Ursela Heck of Livonia, MI; Siegfried Aichele of Lawrenceville, GA; Sylvia Aichele of Forest City, PA; and Christl Ramsunder of Cromwell, CT; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jeremy Aichele, who went to be with the Lord on September 7, 2023.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at First Assembly of God, 525 E. Leitersburg St., Greencastle, PA, with Pastor Josh Fowler and Pastor Jerry Williams officiating. Interment with military honors will take place privately at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
