Mary F. (Smith) Shives, 99, a resident of Quincy Retirement Village and formerly of Greencastle, PA, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in the Waynesboro hospital, Waynesboro, PA.

Born February 21, 1926, in Greencastle, she was the daughter of the late L. Donald and Mary F. (Coldsmith) Smith.

She graduated in 1943 from Greencastle High School and in 1946 from Washington County Hospital School of Nursing.

She was married to her late husband, Jerry W. Shives, Jr., for over 68 years. Mr. Shives passed away February 11, 2016.

Mrs. Shives worked as an office nurse for 11 years and was a surgical O.R. nurse for 25 years at Washington County Hospital, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Quincy, PA, Association of O.R. Nurses, and Washington County Hospital Nurses Alumnae Association.

She is survived by daughter, Patricia A. Ross of Naples, FL, grandchild Haylee B. Ross of Winston-Salem, NC, and niece, Bunny L. Manahan of Waynesboro.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sister Helen Benchoff and infant brother Harold F. Smith.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro. At her request, there will be no public viewing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 176, Quincy, PA 17247.
