Mrs. Mary M. (Izer) Rock, more affectionately known as “Hon”, 95, of Duffield Road, Chambersburg, PA, passed away Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025 in Paramount Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fayetteville, PA.
Born January 15, 1930 in Iron Springs, Fairfield, PA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Theodore “Duke” and Louella A. “Nan” (Bennett) Izer.
Mrs. Rock attended Fairfield schools and graduated from Washington Township High School with the Class of 1948.
She and her husband, the late Mr. Ray H. “Raymond” Rock, were married July 10, 1952. They were together for 67 years when he passed away April 12, 2020.
In early years, Mrs. Rock worked at Gettysburg Hospital and Kinney Shoe Factory. After marriage, she dedicated her life to taking care of her home and raising her family.
Mrs. Rock grew up attending Iron Springs Brethren in Christ Church where she and her late husband were the first couple to be married in the church. After her marriage, she became a member of Pond Bank Independent Church. A woman of strong faith, she faithfully attended Sunday and Wednesday services. Throughout her years, she served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the choir and was involved with a number of children’s ministries.
A member of the Pond Bank Improvement Association, she and her late husband served the community being involved with various festivals and projects.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she also was an avid gardener. Throughout the year, she and her husband could be found in the gardens; many will remember their produce stand.
She is survived by five children, Greg Rock (Robin) of Greencastle, Deb Ferguson (Mike) of Pond Bank, Glenda Cook (Greg) of Marion, Patti Besecker (Kirk) of Five Forks and Emily Eberly (Todd) of Pond Bank; 12 grandchildren, Rob, Michael, Tiffany, Clint, Andrew, David, Sara, Erika, Seth, Jenna, Cory, and Sean; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband; Mrs. Rock was preceded in death by one sister, Theda J. Kuykendall; and two brothers, Thomas E. Izer and William T. “Bill” Izer.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, April 16, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery, near Quincy.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday, in the funeral home.
