Mrs. Maryrose Elizabeth (Yates) Schwartz, 85, of Greencastle, PA passed peacefully on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Chambersburg Hospital, Pennsylvania

Born May 22, 1939, in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank Yates & Mary (Gallagher) Yates. Maryrose is the only child. 

She grew up in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania and graduated from Ridley Park High School. She competed in beauty pageants and became Miss Delaware County 1957. Shortly after, Maryrose met the love of her life Sheldon “Shelly” Schwartz. They were married in 1960. Moving from Pennsylvania to California in the early 60’s, they started their family. Work brought Maryrose and family back to the east coast and settled in Maryland During their 62 years of marriage, they raised 2 loving children, Mark & Eileen.

She loved to travel and entertain friends. Outer Banks, NC was a destination, for the family for many years. She loved the beach.

Maryrose was a stay at home mother, until the children were in High School. She got back into work by taking a job at Sears. Then Coldwell Banker and Long & Foster. Maryrose enjoyed gardening, cooking and crocheting. Just recently, Maryrose became a blanketeer for Project Linus, who make blankets for seriously ill & traumatized children. With over 200 crocheted blankets made, Maryrose became ‘The Blanket Lady’ and had an article written about her in the local paper, The Public Opinion.

She is survived by her son, Mark Elliott Schwartz of Keyser, WV and daughter, Eileen Ann Schwartz of Silver Spring, MD, 1 niece (Edna) and 3 nephews (Paul, Richard & David)

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother in-law, Barbara (Schwartz) Shandelman & Frank Shandelman

In accordance with his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his honor to: Rescue Hose No. 1, Greencastle, PA.
