Mr. Melvin A. “Sonny” Ganoe, Sr., 77, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, PA.
Born August 20, 1947 in Berkeley Springs, WV, he was the son of the late Melvin W. and Francis M. (Martin) Ganoe. He attended Greencastle Schools.
A hardworking man, Sonny worked tirelessly to provide for his family. For many years, he worked alongside his father and then brother in the family business, Ganoe Paving. A self-made entrepreneur, he later founded and operated several successful businesses which included tire sales and service, gas station ownership, lawn maintenance, parking lot sealing and maintenance and hauling services.
An avid hunter and fisherman, Sonny valued his time in the outdoors, whether in the woods or along the water. He was a member of Christian Life Church, Chambersburg and faithfully followed Sunlight Broadcast Network. One of his proudest accomplishments came after turning his life over to Christ. Sonny completed the Berean Bible Study Course, graduating with 100%. Above all else, Sonny treasured time spent with his family and his beloved dog, Radar. He was a devoted husband, dedicated father, beloved grandfather, amazing brother and trusted friend.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of over 59 years, Mrs. Linda D. (Blair) Ganoe; three children, Christina M. Vannoy and her husband, Dan of Reidsville, NC and Sherry S. Winn and Melvin A. “Sonny” Ganoe, Jr., both of Chambersburg; eight grandchildren, Joshua Winn (Katy), Sarah Valenca (David), Stephanie Gettel (Austin), Jessica Schaffer (Daniel), Michael Winn (Evelyn), Rebekah Valli (Christian), Caleb Vannoy (Victoria) and Jonah Vannoy; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harold I. Ganoe (Chris) of Chambersburg and Michael L. Ganoe and Ronald L. Ganoe (Kathy), both of Greencastle; one sister, Katherine Plum (Terry) of Greencastle; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by one grandson, Noah Christian Vannoy; and brother, David E. Ganoe.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon, Friday, July 18, 2025 in Christian Life Church, 1400 Warm Spring Road, Chambersburg. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Joe Pickens officiating. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his wife, Linda, to assist with funeral expenses.
