Phyllis Freda (Harre) Umbower, 96, long time resident of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024. Phyllis was born November 19, 1928 in Everett, PA, daughter of the late Ralph Emerson Harre Sr and Stella Romaine (Burket) Harre. She was preceded in death by her brother Ralph Emerson Harre Jr. Shippensburg, PA in 2018. Widow of Donald Lester Umbower, Sr who passed away in January, 1977. Surviving are her daughter and son, Mrs. Michael (Rebecca) Hones, Collegeville, PA and Donald Lester (Martha) Umbower Jr, North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, four grandchildren, Michael J (Gayle) Hones Jr., Megan Hones Rizzo, Sean P Hones, Wesley Donald (Mikayla) Umbower, 3 great-grand children, Cassidy, Trey, and Scarlett Hones and her sister, Eileen (Harold) Sell Jr, Martinsburg, PA. Losing her husband at such an early age certainly helped to make her the strong, independent woman she became. She loved her family, friends and neighbors, and was always kind and generous to all she met. She also loved animals – dogs, cats, birds, farm animals – but she especially loved feeding and caring for the many squirrel families who lived in her large maple tree. She will be missed. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 5, 2024 in the Sellers Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Ronald Cook. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The Family will receive friends in the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. before the funeral. Memorial donations can be made in Phyllis’s name to Meals on Wheels, 43 W.
