Natha Laverne (Jenkins) Cisney, Latshaw, 92, passed away Friday, October 18, 2024, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Tom Elliott.
Formerly of Greencastle, PA, she was the last of her immediate family.
She was born August 28, 1932, in Cromwell Twp., Three Springs, PA to the late Owen E. & Clara N. (Whitsel) Jenkins.
Natha was a graduate of Orbisonia (PA) High School, Class of 1949. She married Donald Cisney of Rockhill Furnace, PA in 1950. They moved to Greencastle, PA around 1953. They had four daughters. They divorced in 1973.
She married George Latshaw of Marion, PA in 1977. They ended their marriage in 1986.
While raising her young daughters, she did in-home babysitting, ironings, and sold Avon. In the early 1960’s she worked a short time at Breyers Processing Plant in Greencastle & Knouse Foods in Chambersburg. In 1964 she began working at Corning Glass Works in Greencastle. During her years at Corning, she held several different manufacturing positions. She retired on her 60th birthday in 1992 with 28yrs of service.
For several years after retirement, she took care of her elderly mother. After her mother passed away in 1998, she worked part-time for a brief period at the Family Dollar Store in Greencastle. She then went to work part-time at Walmart in Hagerstown (Garland Groh Blvd.) as a People Greeter. She retired from Walmart in 2008 at the age of 76.
For many years, she was a social member of the VFW Post 6319 and the American Legion Post 376 of Greencastle, PA.
Natha was a very social person with a great sense of humor. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies included flower gardening, reading, doing Word Find, Jigsaw puzzles and watching TV. She also enjoyed attending Greencastle Old Home Week festivities. She loved it when people stopped by her home on Ridge Road to admire her beautiful flowers. Many friends and family members were recipients of perennial flower starter plants over the years. An active person, she mowed her large yard with a push power mower until the age of 82 and drove until the age of 90.
She traveled to many different states (including Hawaii) & several Caribbean Islands on her travel jaunts. Her favorite destination was Las Vegas, NV where she liked to try her luck on the slot machines.
In her later years, she enjoyed it when a family member would take her for a ride to her childhood “neck of the woods” (Orbisonia & Three Springs, PA). Riding the East Broad Top Railroad train in Rockhill Furnace, PA with many of her great-grandchildren over the years was very special to her.
Natha had a fondness for animals. She had an American Eskimo dog (Tappy) who traveled back & forth with her to Three Springs during the years she was caring for her mother. She was heartbroken when he died from being hit by a car. She later got two cats which she named Goldie and Sunshine due to their yellow fur. She enjoyed their company for many years.
