Mrs. Patricia E. (Gordon) Hine, 84, of Blue Ridge Summit, PA passed away Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Quincy Village, Quincy, PA.
Born January 15, 1941 in Mount Jackson, VA, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Mary Barbara (Jones) Gordon.
Pat graduated from high school in Mount Jackson. She later received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Shepherd University, Shepherdstown, WV.
She and her husband of over 59 years, William M. “Bill” Hine, were married on November 27, 1965 in Mount Jackson.
Pat was a school teacher for the Waynesboro Area School District for over 10 years, teaching at both East Junior High School and Waynesboro Area Senior High School. After pausing her career to raise her children, she continued to substitute teach for many years. She coached basketball and field hockey at the high school. Pat was a PIAA referee for basketball and volleyball for over 20 years and worked part time for the Census Bureau for over 22 years.
She was a member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, PA for over 45 years. Pat took pride in continuing family traditions, especially around the holidays. She enjoyed yearly trips to the beach where she could ride her bike with her grandchildren to the candy store, cooking family favorite meals, playing tennis and pickleball, watching her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, baking pies, cookies and her famous “Red Bird” cake, completing 1000 piece puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Derek W. Hine (Rita) of Waynesboro, PA and Duane P. Hine (Kim) of Hagerstown, MD; four grandchildren, Rachel Dahlstrand (John), Evan Hine (Christa), Logan Hine and Zander Hine; two great-grandchildren, Ava Dahlstrand and Grace Dahlstrand; three sisters, Blanche Weatherholtz, Becky Bowers and Barbara “Sis” Lam, all of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Buddy Gordon, Charlie Gordon and Richard Gordon.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 10, 2025 in The Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church Street, Waynesboro, PA with Pastor Dennis Beaver officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Thursday morning, in the welcome center of the church.
