Mr. Paul W. Smith, 101, a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2025 in SpiriTrust Lutheran Home.
Born July 16, 1923 in Rouzerville, he was the son of the late Roy W. and Helen M. (Burns) Smith.
Mr. Smith attended Washington Township Schools and served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
He and his wife, the late Mrs. Anna C. (Haugh) Smith, were married June 7, 1947. They were together for over 46 years when she passed away September 21, 1993.
In early years, Mr. Smith was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg and later Westinghouse in Baltimore, MD for a number of years. Prior to his retirement in 1986, he worked at Mack Truck, Hagerstown for 25 years.
He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post # 15 and William Max McLaughlin VFW Post #695, both of Waynesboro and the Marine Corp League, Chambersburg.
A dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Smith was an easygoing man who always had a smile on his face. He enjoyed traveling, attending Marine Corp Reunions, watching the Orioles and Penn State Football. But most of all he enjoyed time with his family. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Smith is survived by three children, Stephen D. Smith (Bobbie) of Calabash, NC, Rhonda M. Wahrenburg (Lester) of Virginia Beach, VA and Gina K. Baker (Bob) of Waynesboro; four grandchildren, Brett, Valerie, Shelley and Janine; two step-granddaughters, Kelly and Kim; two great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one step-great-great-granddaughter; two sisters, Helen Cool of Smithsburg, MD and Annabelle McGehee of Lancaster, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Trevor Dykes; his longtime companion, Betty Norris; and four brothers, Donald B. Smith, Crawford L. Smith, Edward D. Smith and Roy L. Smith.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the nurses and staff at SpiriTrust Lutheran Home for the wonderful care Mr. Smith received during his stay.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro where military graveside honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
