Mrs. Rachel Marie (Orr) Brown, 80, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD.

Born February 26, 1944 in Martinsburg, WVA, she was the daughter of the late Emmanuel and Lottie V. (Miller) Orr.

She graduated High School in Baltimore, MD.

She married the love of her life, Lawnie Jackson “LJ” Brown, Jr. on June 18, 1986, in Cedarville, MD. Life was not always easy but they stuck it out together for 38 years.

Rachel had her own beauty shop for many years before going to work for the federal government in the Navy Yard, working for the Dept of Defense doing security background checks. She worked there for over 25 years before she retired in 2012.

She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God, Greencastle. She enjoyed playing games on the computer and was always up for talking to friends and family on the phone or in person. They all meant the world to her. She will also be greatly missed by her lovable Rat Terrier named Pepper.

In addition to her husband, Lawnie, she is survived by a son, Kevin K. Lee and his wife, Elizabeth, of Brookville, MD, two daughters: Laura L. Sheehan and her husband, Dennis, of Bethesda, MD and Tina R. Braxton of Hagerstown, MD; her step-children: Christopher Brown and his wife Tina Ridgeway of Upper Marlboro, MD, Jeff Brown of Clear Spring, MD and Tammy Houser and her husband, Drew of Kearneysville, WV; thirteen grandchildren: Shelby Lee, Brandon Lee, Garrett Sheehan, Ericka Sheehan, Ryan Sheehan, Hallie Brown, Samantha Brown, Carl Brown, Dylan Brown, Austin Brown, Derek Houser, Krista Tapia, and Harmony Honsowitz; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Rachel was the last of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Aretha Brown and Beatrice Baker and six brothers: Russell Emanuel Orr, George Orr, Charles Orr, Tramwell Orr, Melvin Orr, Larry Orr and George Orr.

Services will be private, at the convenience of the family. A private burial will be in Lovettsville Union Cemetery, Loudon County, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rachel’s name, to the John R. Marsh Cancer Center, 11116 Medical Campus Rd. Suite 129, Hagerstown, MD 21742.
