Raymond Ellis Barnes, age 78, of Hagerstown MD passed away Friday, May 30, 2025, in Meritus Medical Center, with his family by his side.

Raymond was born on December 21, 1946, in Hagerstown MD. He attended elementary years at the Leitersburg School, and graduated in 1964 from North Hagerstown High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was employed as a mechanic with Eyler’s Vending in Frederick MD and later as Head Custodian at Thomas Johnson High School for many years. He fellowshipped with believers at Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, and at Waynesboro Gospel Chapel for many years.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (Honodel) Barnes of 54 years; his son, Bryan (fiancé Angie) of Clear Spring MD and his daughter, Kristen Furtner (husband Joey) of Pine Knoll Shores NC, and five grandchildren, Jared Barnes, Jaden Barnes (fiancé Colson), Karlee Furtner, Ben Furtner and Sam Furtner; and his brother, Jeff Barnes (wife Kathy) of Hancock MD. One of the highlights of his life was spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them skills in fishing and hunting for deer and turkey.

He was preceded in death by his father, Hollis and mother, Ethel; sisters, Janice Calandrelle and Judy Feiser, and brother, Harlan Barnes.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 4, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, where full military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Wednesday afternoon, in the funeral home.

A favorite scripture was John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
