Mrs. Shirley M. (Monn) Weir, 86, of Waynesboro, PA passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025, in Mercy House, Chambersburg, PA.
Born August 24, 1938 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Lionel R. Moats, Sr. and Mary A. (Monn) Moats. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
She and her husband, the late Ronald Jack “Smokey” Weir, were married on December 24, 1966. Mr. Weir died on November 13, 2020.
In her early life, Mrs. Weir worked at Connie’s Sportswear in Waynesboro. She later worked as a seamstress for over 42 years at Stanley Company, Chambersburg. Following her retirement in 2004, she worked several years as the treasurer for REACT.
She was a member of Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Waynesboro. She also served as co-leader of the local Girl Scout Troop from 1983-1986 and volunteered at the Quincy Ox Roast serving food.
Mrs. Weir enjoyed traveling on bus trips.
She is survived by five children, Jeff Bonner (Wanda) of Goldsboro, NC, Dennis Bonner, Jr. (Kay) of Waynesboro, Steven Bonner (Jody) of South Mountain, PA, Michael Bonner, Sr. (Robin) of Waynesboro and Marsha Biddinger of Chambersburg; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Lionel “Sam” Moats (Shirley) of Waynesboro and Jean Marie McCoy of Williamson, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy Bonner; her son-in-law, David Biddinger; one granddaughter, Kathy Bonner; one great-grandson, Gregory Bonner; her aunt and uncle who raised her, Frank and Bessie Brown; and her brother-in-law, Gary McCoy.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, February 6, 2025 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Burial will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Thursday afternoon, in the funeral home.
