Sofia Von Possel, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 3, 2024, at Chambersburg Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chambersburg, PA. She was born February 1, 1935, in Manila, Philippines, the daughter of the late Francisca (Azada) and Jose Von Possel. Sofia graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. She went on to teach Spanish and theology there, as well as at the University of the Philippines, for several years. Sofia later moved to Spain to complete a master’s degree in Spanish. In the 1980s, she moved to the United States, living in New Jersey and California before settling in Chambersburg, PA for the last 22 years. While in Chambersburg, she volunteered a lot of her time to helping translate for Spanish speakers. Sofia had many hobbies, including reading, watching movies, listening to music, traveling, eating sweets, and taking care of her cats and house plants. Most of all, she enjoyed the company of family and friends. Sofia was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and was recognized by her family as a dependable prayer warrior and example of someone so devoted to her faith. Sofia is survived by her brother Ramon Von Possel, Sr., as well as many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and more extended family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held Fri., November 15 from 1-2 p.m., immediately proceeded by funeral services, all at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Ave, Chambersburg, PA.
