Mr. Thomas E. “Tom” Wynkoop, 80, a lifelong resident of Waynesboro, PA passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025, in UMPC Westshore Hospital, Mechanicsburg, PA.
Born December 16, 1944 in Waynesboro. He was the son of the late John Walter and Charlotte E. (Fitz) Wynkoop.
He graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School Class of 1962.
Tom served in the United States Navy from 1962 until 1966. He was a radioman on two destroyers stationed at Norfolk, VA.
He and his wife of over 57 years, Linda K. (Fleagle) Wynkoop, were married on April 27, 1968.
Tom was employed at Landis Machine Company, Grove Manufacturing, Mack Truck, Fairchild Aircraft, Lowes of Chambersburg and Hagerstown, MD, Maryland Correctional Institute, Hagerstown and also as a driver of special needs elementary school children for McCleaf Bus Lines. While at Landis Machine Company, Tom completed the Journeyman Machinist Trade. He successfully completed the Penn State Management Development Program and attended HCC for Job related courses. Most of Tom’s working career involved manufacturing and retail supervision. He retired in 2006.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees. He was member of Acacia Lodge No. 586 F&A.M., Waynesboro, where he served as Worshipful Master in 1989. He was a former member of Elks Lodge No. 731 and was a past Exalted Ruler. Tom was a Charter Member of the North Street Warehouse Group. He was also a member of Joe Stickell American Legion, Post #15 and The Mont Alto Hunting and Fishing Club. He held a FCC Amateur Radio License and was a Red Cross Blood Donor.
Tom enjoyed working in his basement woodshop, playing cards and being with friends and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Brian Wynkoop and his wife, Donna of Waynesboro and Kelly Lundy and her husband, Gino of Lock Haven, PA; four grandchildren, Nathan, Devin, Dylan and Angie; one step grandchild, Tyrus; one step great-grandchild, Jonas; one brother: Capt. David Wynkoop, USN, Annapolis, MD; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John S. Wynkoop.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, May 16, 2025, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor David Deatrich officiating. A Masonic Funeral will be help just prior to the religious service at 11 A.M. on Friday by the members of Acacia Lodge #586. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 A.M. until 11:00 A.M., Friday morning, in the funeral home.
