Velva K. Jones, 103, passed away April 7, 2025, at Brookview Healthcare Center. She was born October 19, 1921, in Letterkenny Township, the daughter of the late Carrie (Ickes) and Ambrose B. Karper. She was a 1940 graduate of Chambersburg High School and attended the Chambersburg Business School. She worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at Geyer Lumber and Millwork in Chambersburg from 1941 to 1953. A member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and National Association of Retired Federal Employees 1063, she also volunteered at the YMCA Office and the Andrew Buchanan Elementary School Library. She married Joseph Glenn Jones on June 10, 1950, who died October 31, 1985. Velva is survived by her son, Gregg Jones and his wife, Mary Flynn, of Sterling, VA; grandchildren: Dr. Katherine E. Jones of Cardiff, Wales and Gregg Drew Jones, Jr. of Christiansburg, VA. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha (Paul) Stepler and Helen Gross and brother, Donald Karper. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025 at Sellers Funeral Home with the Rev. Barbara Barry officiating. Interment at Lincoln Cemetery will follow the service.
