Mr. William B. “Bill” Gatten, 78, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 in Hershey Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born April 28, 1946 in Washington, PA, he was the son of the late Thomas and Alice (Butterfield) Gatten.
Mr. Gatten was a graduate of Bellaire High School with the Class of 1964.
He was drafted into the United States Army at Fort Bragg, NC in 1965. He spent time stationed in Germany where he was a cook. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
He was a longtime employee of Frick Company, Waynesboro where he worked as a painter and later was employed in Environmental Services at Waynesboro Hospital.
Bill was an avid fan of Ohio State and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He enjoyed weekly trips to the produce auction where he bought fruits and vegetables to sell at his roadside stand he had at his home on Polidor Road. While his sons were growing up, he was active with Pen Mar Little League, helping at the ballfield.
Mr. Gatten is survived by his wife of years almost 40 years, Mrs. Brenda M. (Sanders) Gatten whom he married April 26, 1985; four sons, Eric Sanders and his wife, Jessica, Joshua Sanders and his wife, Sarah, Joseph Gatten and his wife, Laurie and Scott Gatten; eight grandchildren, Kendall, Trenton, Elyse, Cameron, Nicholas, Everette, Juniper, Seth and one on the way; four great-grandchildren; his mother-in-law, Connie Welsh; two sisters, Barb Fulton and Ginny Gatten; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Gatten who passed away March 29, 2004.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 31, 2025 in Rouzerville Christian Church, 11977 Old Route 16, Waynesboro. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
